Chatsworth Estate & Pride and Prejudice

Chatsworth has a long association with the book, which was published in 1813. Many readers and scholars believe that Jane Austen's description of Pemberley House is based on the appearance of Chatsworth as it was in the early 19th century. Check out http://www.visitprideandprejudice.com/ if you are interested in further info of the surroundings.

Crooked Spire of Chesterfield...

Church steeple @ Chesterfield, on the way to Sherwood forest (in the Midlands). Many Legends have spun out of the twisted spire, see a few at http://www.chesterfieldparishchurch.org.uk/spire.php. It sure gives Chesterfield its identity. Built, along with much of the rest of the church in the 14th century, it was straight for several centuries before it began to twist, probably as a result of unseasoned timber being used for its construction. It now leans nearly 9ft to the south and is still moving.

Tennyson...

Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892), English poet often regarded as the chief representative of the Victorian age in poetry. Tennyson succeeded Wordsworth as Poet Laureate in 1850. I don't remember much more from my Literature classes (i.e. Andrews Academy, '90).

Cathedral in Lincoln

The Cathedral of Lincolnshire's capital is where they filmed some sections of the Davinci Code (as they couldn't do it in Westminster Abbey). (A few more pictures from Yves are available at: http://picasaweb.google.com/yves.senty/Lincoln)

finally arrived...

Although Steve Jobs didn't delivery it personally (why else would he be hanging around in London for), my new MacBook Pro has arrived. For those interested, it's the 15" 2.16 GHz version but I've had to up the RAM to 2 GB and the hard drive to 160 GB (for ample space for OS X and Vista and XP all singing together with either VMware or Parallels). I'm slightely disapointed at Macs as its graphical resolution is worst than my 4 year-old IBM Thinkpad).
